1922 - Ernest Shackleton suffers a fatal heart attack on board the Quest at South Georgia. Wild's diary: "3 am, I sat up saying 'Go on with it, let me have it, straight out!' he replied 'The Boss is dead!' It was a staggering blow." So ended the Heroic Age of Antarctic exploration
