1911 - Scott's expedition members in Wolsey underwear (with reindeer skin sleeping bags), one of a series of pictures for sponsors taken by Herbert Ponting while on a depot-laying sledge journey.
1821 - First claimed landing on Antarctica by men from the American sealer Cecilia under Captain John Davis, at Hughes Bay at the northern end of the Peninsula, "I think this Southern Land to be a Continent". It is not widely accepted, the first undisputed landing was on the 24th of January 1895.
