Robert Falcon Scott, British Antarctic Expedition (South Pole Expedition) on the ship Terra Nova, 1910 - 1913.
1911 - At the foot of the Beardmore Glacier, Scott's South Pole party shoot their ponies before ascending the glacier.

1911 - Cape Adare.

"Disaster on a whole scale overtook several colonies of the birds (penguins)
A snowdrift and good deal of the rock beneath it was precipitated
on to the beach... I dug out five... two seemed unhurt and
showed their pleasure at their release by fastening to my
legs and belabouring my shins with their flippers, evidently
under the impression that I was responsible for the disaster."
George Levick with Scott's Northern Party, Cape Adare is about 200 miles from the main expedition base on Ross Island.
