1911 - Christmas
- "All crumbs of biscuit were carefully
collected... a capital dish of Christmas porridge. I doubt whether
anyone at home enjoyed his Christmas dinner so much as we did
that morning in the tent. One of Bjaaland's cigars to follow
brought a festival spirit."
1904 - Carl Larsen produces the first whale oil at the newly built Grytviken whaling station on South Georgia, in a few years, Antarctica will produce 70% of the worlds whale oil.
