Robert Falcon Scott, British Antarctic Expedition (South Pole Expedition) on the ship Terra Nova, 1910 - 1913.

1912 - The six men of Scott's Northern Party stumble across an old food depot, the first full meal in 9 months they found biscuits, butter, raisins and lard. The change in diet from seal meat and blubber almost certainly saved one mans life. They ate until their jaws ached.

"Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah! Good news and plenty of biscuits"

They had spent the last 9 months including the winter of 1912 very uncomfortably in an igloo and ice cave living on seals and penguins, without adequate provisions or equipment after their ship, the Terra Nova was unable to pick them up as intended.

Not knowing whether rescue was coming, they had decided to walk the 200 miles back to base when the worst of the winter was over.
