1895 - during a Norwegian sealing and whaling voyage on the ship Antarctic under Henrik Bull, Carsten Borchgrevink claims to be the first to set foot on the Antarctic continent, two sailors with him Leonard Kristense and Alexander Tunzelman each also claim they were the first.


1903 - The relief ship Morning arrives at Hut Point during the middle summer of Scott's expedition. Scott's ship the Discovery is 8-9 miles away still surrounded by solid ice and cannot be broken out. picture - Discovery frozen into sea-ice.


1915 - First of three teams set off in the Ross Sea area to lay depots for Shackletons' party from the Endurance to use on their trans-antarctic journey via the pole.
