Ernest Shackleton, Trans Antarctic Expedition, 1914 - 1917.
1916 - Shackleton on board Aurora. After his escape and rescue of the Endurance crew from Elephant Island, Shackleton went to New Zealand for the relief of the Cape Evans party. He sailed as a supernumerary under the authority of the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australian governments who financed the relief.
