The "Expedition" model parka is the retail version of the legendary "Big Red" as supplied to the United States Antarctic Program (USARP) for over 20 years. So effective are these coats that all expeditioners issued with them have to wear them on the aircraft when flying south for survival purposes in case the aircraft comes down over Antarctica. At the end of an expeditioners tour of duty the Big Red is returned to stores as its durability means it can be re-issued many times.
