Diary entry: 20 - Five of us tried to be the first people to reach the South Pole. After a very long and hard journey, we found someone had beaten us to it by about a month. We are very disappointed and now have a very long journey back home.
Explanatory caption: 19th January 1912, Scott's party reach the pole to find Amundsen's tent already there. Scott writes in his diary: "The worst has happened", "All the day dreams must go".
